Cross Country

The 2012-2013 cross country season got off to a HOT start, with practice temperatures reaching over 100 degrees. The team started with 40 runners, and finished with 33 brave souls. Of that 33, 13 were returning runners who participated in the sport during 7th grade.

Our first meet was the Forest Park XC Festival where the athletes ran with teams from all over the U.S. Brooke Robinson (7th) earned a medal for 15th place.

The second meet was the Bowles Invitational and Festus West City Park. Two girls earned medals: Brooke Robinson 11th and Emma Solovic 13th. Our girls’ team placed 4th and the boys placed 11th.

The Ed White Invitational (Fox) at Arnold City Park was a meet that we ran in which we competed with only the middle schools in our district. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams took 2nd place.
Medals were earned by:
Emma Solovic 2nd
Kellen Emery 4th
Brooke Robinson 7th
Luke Mueller 6th
Emily Mueller 8th                  Justin Kahlo 9th
Joclyn Key 9th                      Nathan Lee 11th
Breanna Setchfield 15th         Ryan Hays 12th
Courtney Lawrence 20th        Ethan Berger 17th

The Desoto meet resulted in the girls’ team finishing 3rd and the boys’ team finishing 7th. There were 4 medals earned by Emma Solovic (12), Brooke Robinson (13), Kellen Emery (5), and Luke Mueller (18).

The Hillsboro meet was cancelled due to storms, but only after the high school teams had ran. The remaining middle school athletes from both Seckman and Antonia had a scary ride back to school. We were all very thankful for Art, our bus driver.

Brooke Robinson was the only medal in the R-7 meet, which was unique because the 7th grade and 8th grade athletes ran separately. It was also the most wooded course of the year.

Our district meet was held in Forest Park in conjunction with the Suburban-South High School Conference meet. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams took 2nd with medals awarded to the following:
Emma Solovic 5th           Kellen Emery 5th
Brooke Robinson 9th       Luke Mueller 6th
Emily Mueller 10th          Evan Price 11th
Joclyn Key 11th              Ryan Hays 13th
Breanna Setchfield 17th  Justin Kahlo 15th
Courtney Lawrence 19th  Nathan Lee 21st
Abby Dishner 25th          William Magee 25th

The banquet was held on October 23rd at the Fox C-6 service center, where we celebrated with our “southside” friends from Antonia, and enjoyed some Detour together.  We definitely enjoyed the break before beginning the Jaguar Running Winter Running Program.
